Its the time of year when many of us draw up a list of New Years resolutions.
It occurred to me as I was washing dishes yesterday and looking out the window
at the red tailed hawk circling above, that there was an alternative to the self-critical
list many of us make. Instead of resolving to lose weight, change our personalities,
or work harder, why not resolve to do one additional thing for the environment?
So Ive taken the liberty of coming up with a few suggestions:
Carpool to work one day or one more day a week.
Write one letter a month to a public official.
Set up a paper recycling bin at work.
Bring your own coffee cup instead of using paper.
Volunteer to work on habitat restoration.
Take minutes for a Sierra Club meeting.
Substitute a walk, bus ride, or bike trip for a car trip.
Make an end-of-year donation to your Chapter or Group.
Walk your child to school instead of driving.
Plant a tree.
Use cloth napkins instead of throw aways.
Doubtless you can think of many more. The opportunities are all around us. Select
ones that suit your personality and talents. Send me an email and tell me about
your resolutions. Happy New Year!
Good-by paste up
The Ventana is currently in the process of eliminating our old-fashioned paper
paste up and in the future will be sending an electronic version to our printer.
I want to give a big thank you to the members of the Chapter Executive Committee
who have authorized the purchase of the hardware and software needed to make this
conversion. Special thanks to Richard Stover who has agreed to install and trouble-shoot
the computer change.
