Letter re GPU review period

RE: Draft General Plan EIR

Dear Chairman Armenta and members of the Board of Supervisors:

The Ventana Chapter of the Sierra Club with over 7,000 members requests that the Monterey County Board of Supervisors provide the public with at least sixty days in which to comment on the newest Draft EIR of the current version of the Monterey County General Plan.

We believe that residents of all 5 supervisorial districts should have an opportunity to weigh in on this crucial process. It would be reasonable to assume that in order to keep the process fair and open to final review by the public the Monterey County Planning Commission should be required to hold hearings in each of the five supervisorial districts.

Separately, we ask that consideration should be given to the fact that the voters in the Fourth Supervisorial District have elected Jane Parker as Supervisor and a major election issue in her campaign was the new County GPU. Making sure that she be seated for the important vote would demonstrate a commendable respect for the will of the people of the Fourth District.
