The Road to Victory
October 2008

The election is only weeks away, and the race is going to be close. The Sierra Club is on the front lines of this historic election, working hard to elect Barack Obama and win key congressional races. If we turn out enough voters this year, the planet wins.

To reach enough Obama voters in key states, Sierra Club members are needed to make calls and knock on doors. The Sierra Club member volunteer army is a seasoned and skilled team - but we've got to activate it! Sierra Club has launched the "Road to Victory" program, enabling Sierra Club members around the country to recruit battleground-state Sierrans.

The top goal is to recruit enough Chapter participation to adopt our 8 key states: CO, MN, NH, NM, NV, OH, PA, and VA. The Obama campaign, however, is running staffed campaigns in these additional battleground states: FL, IA, IN, ME, MO, MT, NC, ND, OR, WA and WI, and providing Sierra Club muscle into these states is a second tier goal. This program is limited to Sierra Club members because the Obama campaign does not accept in-kind PAC contributions.

The Road to Victory is encouraging Chapters to adopt swing state Chapters, and help them mobilize in two ways:

  • Phone Calls to Battleground States: You'll be on the front lines, calling battleground-state Sierra Club members. We'll provide all the lists and tools to make the phone calls easy and effective.
  • Travel to a Nearby Battleground State: If you can drive to a swing state, or can spring for a plane ticket, you're needed! Sierra Club will be organizing trips to battleground states, and we've provided an online forum to organize carpooling and housing with fellow Sierrans who're working on the Obama campaign.
Please contact the chapter at: if you would like to work on this campaign for the Ventana Chapter.
