The Transportation Committee deals with transportation related issues in Santa Cruz County, including widening of Highway 1, alternative transportation, and reduction of transportation-related Greenhouse Gas emissions.

Year End Report 2011

The Transportation Committee focused mainly on attempting to halt the widening of Highway 1 via an 8 mile stretch in Santa Cruz County. Members of the Committee working with another group of activists, The Campaign for Sensible Transportation, raised funds to fight the widening in court, on grounds of violations CEQA related to piecemeal development. The suit was not upheld in a Sacramento superior courtroom when the judge ruled in favor of Caltrans. This process took nearly a year. Several fund raisers were held.
