Current Opportunities (If you're interested, call us at 426-4453)> Hike LeaderIf you have a place you enjoy hiking or walking that you would like to share with others, think about leading an occasional hike for the Ventana Chapter. Hike leaders need to attend training before leading hikes on their own. Members residing in Monterey County call Anneliese Suter at 624-1467. Members residing in Santa Cruz County call George Jammal at 706-4233 > Membership Committee MemberWe are starting up a new membership committee. Do you have a sales background, or just enjoy interacting with people? You don't have to be an expert in environmental activism, but rather someone who would enjoy activities such as welcoming new members to the chapter, organizing classes or other activities for current members and attending fairs on behalf of the chapter to invite prospective members to join. > Political Committee MemberWe need volunteers for our political committee who are interested in local and regional politics. Members help the committee to develop endorsement recommendations for local city councils, planning commissions, water district boards, etc, but also help plan events where constituents get to hear from their various public representatives. > Action Alert E-mail ParticipantIf you want to have an impact on local environmental issues but don't have much time, sign up for our new action alert e-mail list. We will alert you once or twice a month when phone calls or letters are needed on environmental issues in Santa Cruz County, and perhaps occasionally on regional issues. If we are requesting a letter, a sample will be provided, so it will be easy for you to edit the text and print out the letter. We may also include requests for attendance at important public meetings in support of our issues. > Call To Action VolunteersVolunteers are needed from time to time to phone local Sierra Club members and ask them to attend public meetings in their communities to support Sierra Club issues. A script and calling tips will be provided. Sierra Club members are good people, and we screen out those who ask not to be contacted, so this should be a very friendly experience! > Public Service AnnouncementsSee if your local movie theater will run Sierra Club public service announcements. Movie theaters always have ads that they run as slides before the movie presentation starts. If you are willing to ask, they will often add public service announcements to the mix. Sierra Club has some beautiful slides to offer. [ top of page ]
